Don't Waste Your Sacred Vote
This November, America is faced with the challenge of placing godly, conservative men and women into positions of leadership in the state and federal level. The decisions our government make can be perilous.
We have an assumption that the names on the ballot on General Election won the Primary fair and square which is not necessarily true. At the same token, we should not check out of the process in frustration over the corrupt practices.
Voting for the lesser of two evils is hardly a step of faith if it is not based on knowledge. While we still have some freedoms, let us exercise our rights and responsibilities with courage, pro-actively.
Pennsylvania recognizes the right of “We the people” to write-in who we trust to represent and govern us. Several grassroots efforts launched a write-in campaign movement compelled that we cannot sacrifice our principles at the altar of political expediency.

CHAP Endorsement to The Membership

Dear CHAP Member,
As a CHAP member you are getting this special email. It is only going to CHAP members for reasons that will become obvious shortly. Because CHAP is a federal 501 C4 corporation, we can endorse candidates for public office to our membership. We have never done this before. This letter is to endorse not one but two candidates in the upcoming primary and hopefully then the general election in the fall. They are Pennsylvania Representative Sam Rohrer running for Governor and Pennsylvania Representative Daryl Metcalfe running for Lt. Governor.
I first met Sam Rohrer at the 1995 CHAP convention. He was a homeschooler who also happened to be a Pennsylvania State Representative. We, at CHAP, have worked with him ever since. He has been our champion at the state capitol on various issues including our attempt to get a Homeschool Freedom Bill - HB 2560. As good as that has been, that is not the reason we are supporting Sam for Governor of Pennsylvania. The reason that we are supporting Sam is that he is a man of sterling integrity. He stands firmly for his principles, regardless of distractions.
This letter is to encourage you to go to samrohrer.org and find out how to support him. This is our chance to have a homeschooling governor. He is a man whose goals and values are the same as ours. If I had to choose between Sam and myself for governor, I would certainly choose Sam.
Along with Sam Rohrer, CHAP encourages you to also work for and support Daryl Metcalfe for the office of Lt. Governor. Daryl Metcalfe is a Pennsylvania Representative who has been working with CHAP as long as he has been in office. He is a steadfast supporter of homeschooling and Christian family values. He once told us that he would sponsor any legislation that we wanted. His staunch integrity has been a source of wonder to me. He too deserves our fervent support.
If you have ever found yourself wondering why we don't elect men of integrity, here is your chance to make it happen. Support these two men as if your future, and the future of your children depended on it, for it surely does.

Dear Fellow Homeschooling Parent

The choice you’ve made to take responsibility for the education of your children was not easy. But as Ruth Ann and I found out many years ago, the commitment to homeschool our six kids was one of our best life decisions.
When I first ran for public office seventeen years ago, it was out of a deep concern about the increasingly invasive role of government, and the steady erosion of personal liberties.
It wasn’t too long ago when the idea of parental responsibility in education was not a value respected by most of the political elites. This disconnect couldn’t have been more obvious than in my statewide travels in the 1990’s to fight and defeat “Outcome - Based Education.” We won that battle because of engaged and alert parents like you!
I think you will now agree, that because of the policy changes we have achieved together, the home education movement is now synonymous with excellence and good citizenship. We’ve come a long way, but as many of us have learned, the opponents of home education and school choice are relentless and unyielding. We must remain vigilant.
As a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, I authored the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) law, a measure that has allowed tens of thousands of kids to escape failing schools. Beyond that, I supported laws to expand charter schools, and have always defended the rights of parents to make decisions for the education of their children.
I’m running for governor because like no other time in my public service, I feel an enormous sense of urgency to confront the challenges we face. From high taxes, runaway spending, a heavy regulatory burden and persistent threats to life and family, Pennsylvania ’s next chief executive must have a sense of moral purpose and courage.

Sam Rohrer Endorsed by Homeschool Leader
Sam Rohrer has been representing Bucks County since 1992. That translates as being elected and re-elected nine times, a good job performance approval from his constituents. This comes as no surprise since he has been an outspoken supporter for timeless constitutional principles evidenced by his record. And there can be no more explosive issue today than the protection of time-honored traditions and practice.
Posterity depends on education and is a universal campaign hot topic.
As a home educator by choice and by default - and later by conviction, I owe a debt of gratitude to Sam Rohrer. He is a courageous homeschool father who continues to work hard to protect the rights of parents to teach and train their own God-given charge.
I am pleased that Michael Farris of the Homeschool Legal Defense Association has come out to endorse him for all his efforts.

The Republican Party Should Stop the Endorsement Practice
Every election cycle, we have committee members in State and County levels who vet every candidate running for a particular office. Each of these candidates fulfill the legal requirements to be included in the ballot. However, an endorsed candidate who usually is already part of the establishment gets campaign help from the party.
While State and County Republican Committee members are elected (albeit, non-paid) positions, it is not their job to pick our candidates for us. Primary elections are for the people to decide who they want their party to endorse as a candidate; then come election time, those candidates put forth by each party competes for everybody's vote.
Not all patriotic consciencious citizens or super voters (faithful exercisers of their right and responsibility to vote) are aware of this matter. Many better and exemplary candidates have gotten knocked out of the race partly because of this process.
Primary Elections are important. Let me reiterate this by saying that courageous citizens who has stepped up to the plate to challenge bad politicians are unable to justly and fairly compete because right off the bat, they're weeded out of the game. It is a big disservice to us.
True. Any candidate can proceed without party endorsement.
True. There are advantages to the practice, I do not deny that.
However, if we are truly to have a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, no power-holding select group of people should take away the right of the citizenry to be acquainted with anybody and everybody who wants to come forward offering their services to the public.

Calling All Homeschoolers and Supporters of Homeschooling
Current law not only requires parents to obtain an evaluation of their program by persons with qualifications prescribed by statute at their own personal expense, it also requires local superintendents to conduct virtually the same evaluation to also determine whether an appropriate education is occurring. The proposed bill would require parents to submit to the local superintendent only the written evaluation and certification from the qualified evaluator that an appropriate education was occurring. The superintendent would be free to focus on their duties related to the public school rather than wasting countless hours re-doing what a qualified evaluator has already done. This bill will be beneficial for taxpayers, our public schools, and homeschoolers. It is costly, unnecessary, and time consuming to review the portfolios twice. Re-reviewing thousands of portfolios every year is not only burdensome for school districts, but also wastes resources that could have been used for our public school students.
I urge you to take a strong stand in support of homeschooling parents in your district and in Pennsylvania by asking your local Representative to co-sponsor this bill and work to enact it. Pennsylvania's laws pertaining to homeschooling are among the strictest in the nation. Easing this one portion of the regulations would show that the Pennsylvania state motto of Virtue, Liberty and Independence is more than just a saying from our forefathers, but also stands as a true testament to the desire of the people to live free of control by others.

Dems Get Set to Muzzle the Right?

Should Barack Obama win the presidency and Democrats take full control of Congress, next year will see a real legislative attempt to bring back the Fairness Doctrine - and to diminish conservatives' influence on broadcast radio, the one medium they dominate.
Yes, the Obama campaign said some months back that the candidate doesn't seek to re-impose this regulation, which, until Ronald Reagan's FCC phased it out in the 1980s, required TV and radio broadcasters to give balanced airtime to opposing viewpoints or face steep fines or even loss of license. But most Democrats - including party elders Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry and Al Gore - strongly support the idea of mandating "fairness."
Would a President Obama veto a new Fairness Doctrine if Congress enacted one? It's doubtful.
The Fairness Doctrine was an astonishingly bad idea. It's a too-tempting power for government to abuse. When the doctrine was in effect, both Democratic and Republican administrations regularly used it to harass critics on radio and TV.
Second, a new Fairness Doctrine would drive political talk radio off the dial. If a station ran a big-audience conservative program like, say, Laura Ingraham's, it would also have to run a left-leaning alternative. But liberals don't do well on talk radio, as the failure of Air America and indeed all other liberal efforts in the medium to date show. Stations would likely trim back conservative shows so as to avoid airing unsuccessful liberal ones.
Then there's all the lawyers you'd have to hire to respond to the regulators measuring how much time you devoted to this topic or that. Too much risk and hassle, many radio executives would conclude. Why not switch formats to something less charged - like entertainment or sports coverage?
For those who dismiss this threat to freedom of the airwaves as unlikely, consider how the politics of "fairness" might play out with the public. A Rasmussen poll last summer found that fully 47 percent of respondents backed the idea of requiring radio and television stations to offer "equal amounts of conservative and liberal political commentary," with 39 percent opposed.
Liberals, Rasmussen found, support a Fairness Doctrine by 54 percent to 26 percent, while Republicans and unaffiliated voters were more evenly divided. The language of "fairness" is seductive.
Even with control of Washington and public support, Dems would have a big fight in passing a Fairness Doctrine. Rush Limbaugh & Co. wouldn't sit by idly and let themselves be regulated into silence, making the outcome of any battle uncertain. But Obama and the Democrats also plan other, more subtle regulations that would achieve much the same outcome.
He and most Democrats want to expand broadcasters' public-interest duties. One such measure would be to impose greater "local accountability" on them - requiring stations to carry more local programming whether the public wants it or not. The reform would entail setting up community boards to make their demands known when station licenses come up for renewal. The measure is clearly aimed at national syndicators like Clear Channel that offer conservative shows. It's a Fairness Doctrine by subterfuge.
Obama also wants to relicense stations every two years (not eight, as is the case now), so these monitors would be a constant worry for stations. Finally, the Democrats also want more minority-owned stations and plan to intervene in the radio marketplace to ensure that outcome.
It's worth noting, as Jesse Walker does in the latest Reason magazine, that Trinity Church, the controversial church Obama attended for many years, is heavily involved in the media-reform movement, having sought to restore the Fairness Doctrine, prevent media consolidation and deny licenses to stations that refuse to carry enough children's programming.
Regrettably, media freedom hasn't been made an issue by the McCain campaign, perhaps because the maverick senator is himself no fan of unbridled political speech, as his long support of aggressive campaign-finance regulation underscores. But the threat to free speech is real - and profoundly disturbing.
